Helping Impoverished Communities Without Creating Dependency

On Tuesday, May 6th, we heard a presentation given by Neal Lesh on lessons-learned from 3 years of facilitating and funding community-driven development in Uganda and Rwanda.

Neal Lesh, the Chief Strategy Officer of Dimagi, Inc., explained the theory and practice of Spark MicroGrants for sustainable, community-driven change. Spark MicroGrants is a standardized process of giving a community the ability to create a project. The model suggests development efforts should be more patient, trusting, and empowering and less solution-oriented and expert driven. Learn more by reading the notes from Neal Lesh’ presentation and seeing his PowerPoint!
